Visual Testing (VT)

VT involves the visual observation of the surface of a test object to evaluate the presence of surface discontinuities or abnormalities . VT inspections may be by Direct Viewing, using line-of sight vision, or may be enhanced with the use of optical instruments such as magnifying glasses, mirror etc .In accessible location shall be inspected using Boroscope or Videoscopes of various Diameter / probe lengths. Corrosion, misalignment of parts, physical damage and cracks are just some of the discontinuities that may be detected by visual examinations.

Ultra-Sonic Testing (UT)

Ultrasonic inspection relies on electronic transducers that transmit high-frequency sound waves to a material. These sound waves bounce back images, which reveal key characteristics of a material’s properties. The images created by ultrasonic testing can indicate cracks, weld grooves and fractures, as well as indicate material thickness and moving components.

Magnetic Particle Testing (MPT)

These electromagnetic test methods are used to inspect high-permeability ferromagnetic metals such as carbon steel bar, plate, wire rope and parts depending on Flux leakage. It is the most effective for In-service or monitoring of manufacturing defects. Multi-directional magnetization technique is used to find defects in any orientation. Cable wrap method is used for in-service inspection of rotating steam turbine blades. Blade natural frequency analysis

Natural Frequency Testing (NFT)

Blades are primarily designed to meet aerodynamic performance goals. To achieve the proper performance, compromises must sometimes be made with regard to operation at resonance frequencies. It is impossible to design a blade that will operate without any resonance. What the designer must do is minimize the effects of the resonance encountered in operation. The data values of the analysis were then plotted on Campbell diagrams to identify significant reso¬nance points. The natural frequencies and the frequencies of exciting forces are plotted. The coincidence of natural frequencies with the exciting forces is used as the definition of resonance
